Jaunpur, Sep 25 A 32-year-old Union Bank branch manager allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with a firearm inside his moving car on a highway here, police said on Friday.
The incident took place around 9.30 pm on Thursday near Dwarka Dhaba in the Baksha police station area on the Varanasi-Sultanpur highway, they said.
According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Atish Kumar Singh, the deceased, Durgesh Srivastava, a native of Lucknow, was living with his family in Bhupatpatti, Jaunpur.
He was posted as branch manager at the Union Bank branch in Sarai Padri in Sujanganj.
Srivastava was travelling towards Jaunpur city when his car went out of control and collided with a divider near Dwarka Dhaba, the police said.
A highway patrol team reached the spot after receiving information and found Srivastava lying injured on the driver’s seat. As the vehicle was locked from inside, the patrol personnel broke the window and took him out before rushing him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The Circle Officer (Sadar), Additional Superintendent of Police and a forensic team reached the spot and began an investigation.
Police said a suicide note was recovered from the car in which Srivastava held himself responsible for his death. The firearm was also recovered from the vehicle.
Police are investigating whether the firearm was licensed or illegally possessed.
Family members who reached the spot told police that Srivastava had been under stress for the past few days.
