Sunam (Punjab), Sep 25 Two youths died and four others were injured, three of them seriously, after they suffered electric shocks at a langar stall during the annual Urs at the shrine of Peer Baba Jodwan Shah near Cinema Road here late Thursday night, police said on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Anmol (28), son of Rajwinder, a resident of Tohana in Haryana, and Gurtej Singh (30), son of Gurcharan Singh, a resident of Kular Khurd village. Anmol was engaged in catering work.
Among the injured are Happy and Bittu, both residents of Moonak, and Anil of Tohana. They were also associated with catering work.
The incident took place around 9 pm when a large number of devotees had gathered at the shrine for the annual Urs. An electrical current suddenly developed in one of the stalls set up for serving langar (community kitchen), resulting in six people coming in contact with the live current, the police said.
The victims were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sunam, where doctors declared Anmol and Gurtej Singh dead.
Three seriously injured persons were referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, while another injured person is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sunam.
After receiving information about the incident, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and Cabinet minister Aman Arora, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)constituency in-charge Winerjit Singh Goldy and BJP district president Daman Bajwa reached the hospital.
They inquired about the condition of the injured and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
