New Delhi, Sep 24 The railway ministry on Thursday approved the introduction of a daily train service between Kanpur Central in Uttar Pradesh and Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi.
“The introduction of the new daily mail service will strengthen rail connectivity between Kanpur Central and Anand Vihar (T) while providing passengers with an overnight travel option and connectivity to important stations along the route,” a press statement from the ministry said.
The new service will operate as Train No. 14153/14154 Kanpur Central-Anand Vihar-Kanpur Central Mail.
Officials said the train will depart from Kanpur Central at 8:40 pm and reach Anand Vihar at 4:50 am.
“In the return direction, Train No. 14154 Anand Vihar-Kanpur Central Mail will depart from Anand Vihar (T) at 23:25 hours and arrive at Kanpur Central at 07:25 hours. The service will cover a distance of 428 km in both directions,” the ministry said.
The journey time will be eight hours and 10 minutes from Kanpur Central to Anand Vihar and eight hours in the return direction.
According to the ministry, the new train service will have eight commercial stops at Phaphund, Etawah, Tundla, Hathras, Aligarh, Khurja, Dadri and Ghaziabad.
“The daily service will provide passengers with an additional rail travel option between Kanpur and the National Capital Region, with convenient overnight timings in both directions,” the press note said.
“The service will facilitate convenient movement between Kanpur, Etawah, Aligarh, Ghaziabad and the Delhi region, supporting passenger mobility across this important rail corridor,” it added.
The ministry has also approved the construction of a four-lane road over bridge (ROB) at Alkapuri in the Vadodara division of the Western Railway at a cost of Rs 166.5 crore, on a cost-sharing basis with the Gujarat government.
“The total project cost will be shared equally between Indian Railways and the state government. The railway share will be approximately Rs 83.2769 crore, while the state government share will also be approximately Rs 83.2769 crore,” the ministry said.
The existing Alkapuri road under bridge (RUB) near the Vadodara railway station serves as an important east-west road-connectivity link between the Alkapuri and Kalaghoda areas of Vadodara city. However, the existing RUB has a vertical clearance of only about three metres, resulting in restrictions on the movement of larger vehicles and recurring waterlogging in monsoon.
“These limitations contribute to traffic congestion, operational difficulties and inconvenience for road users. The four-lane grade-separated road facility will augment the capacity and functionality of the existing road-crossing arrangement,” the ministry added.
