Mumbai, Sep 24 The Maharashtra government has constituted a 10-member committee to formulate a comprehensive policy for regularising residential encroachments on government land in Mumbai, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal areas up to January 1, 2011.
The committee, headed by Konkan Divisional Commissioner, has been asked to submit a report with clear and final recommendations to the Revenue Department within three months, an official release issued here on Thursday said.
The Revenue Department had taken a policy decision on March 25 this year to regularise residential encroachments on government land across the state made before January 1, 2011, but areas under Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation were excluded from the ambit of the decision.
The government said a comprehensive policy was necessary to deal with encroachments on land belonging to both the state and the Centre in these three municipal areas.
The committee will study existing policies of Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and other relevant authorities and recommend a comprehensive policy for regularisation of the encroachments.
It will make specific recommendations regarding regularisation of encroachments on land belonging to the Central government or its subordinate agencies.
The committee comprises the Konkan divisional commissioner as chairman, and the district collectors of Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban and Pune districts, representatives of SRA, BMC, PMC and PCMC, and superintendents of land records from Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban and Pune as members.
The Joint Commissioner (General Administration), Divisional Commissioner’s Office, Konkan Division, will be the member secretary.
