Chennai, Sep 25 The Madras High Court on Friday restrained the media and digital platforms from publishing or broadcasting any videos related to the alleged child abuse by industrialist R Veeramani.
Justice V Lakshminarayan said that, in the interest of the public, who should know what the police were doing in the case against Veeramani, the Special Investigation Team shall issue a press release once every week.
The court gave the direction while hearing a petition filed by Tulir Charitable Trust (For Prevention and Healing of Child Sexual Abuse).
The judge, while restraining the media from broadcasting any videos related to the case, posted the matter to September 30 for further hearing of the petition filed by Tulir.
Meanwhile, the DMK on Friday approached the Madras High Court, seeking to restrain Law Minister R Nirmal Kumar, PWD Minister Aadhav Arjuna and the TVK IT wing from propagating false and defamatory statements linking the party to the ongoing Veeramani POCSO case.
Senior counsel J Ravindran made a mention seeking leave to file a suit.
Justice K Govindarajan Thilakavadi agreed to take up the case, and accordingly, the matter was taken up for hearing.
After an hour of arguments, the judge directed the state government, Nirmal Kumar, Aadhav Arjuna and the TVK IT wing to file their counter affidavits and posted the matter to September 28 for further hearing.
In its suit, the DMK, represented by its general secretary Duraimurugan, also sought a direction to Nirmal Kumar, Aadhav Arjuna and the TVK IT wing to pay Rs one crore and one lakh towards damages for allegedly making defamatory statements.
The DMK also sought an injunction against X, formerly Twitter, Meta Platforms and YouTube to delete false and defamatory content published on September 21 and 22, 2026.
