Srinagar, Sep 26 Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday lauded the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) teams for restoring eyesight to over 200 people in Kupwara district.
AFMS doctors carried out over 220 sight-restoring surgeries during a two-day camp near the Line of Control (LoC) in J-K’s Kupwara district, an official spokesman said on Friday.
The sight-restoring surgeries were conducted during the 10th edition of a first-of-its-kind mega eye surgical camp, held under Operation Drishti, at an underground operation theatre in Tangdhar in Kupwara — a shelling-prone zone, along the LoC in north Kashmir on Thursday and Friday.
The lieutenant governor described it as a remarkable achievement.
“Kudos to surgeons and personnel of Armed Forces Medical Services for successfully conducting Mega Eye Surgical Camp under Operation Drishti at Tangdhar, Karnah. Restoring sight to 220 people in an underground operation theatre in a challenging border area is a remarkable achievement,” Sinha said in a post on X.
He noted that the dedication of the medical team, led by Brig Sanjay Kumar Mishra, embodies the true spirit of Operation Sadbhavna.
“Bringing advanced eye surgeries, including phacoemulsification, retinal and glaucoma procedures, to remote border hamlets ensures that no citizen is left behind,” Sinha added.
On Friday, the camp was visited by Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, who interacted with patients and distributed medicines and gifts.
