Jamshedpur/ Ranchi, Sep 24 Jharkhand minister Dipika Pandey Singh’s daughter Trisha was among four people killed when the car they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck in Jamshedpur on Thursday, police said.
The accident took place on Marine Drive Road within Sonari police station area in the early hours, they said.
“At least four people, including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Dipika Pandey Singh’s daughter Trisha, have been killed. The others have been identified as Sarthak Agarwal, Naman Gupta and Vanshika Khandelwal,” Sonari police station officer-in-charge Sanjay Suman told PTI.
DSP Manoj Thakur said all four occupants of the car were killed on the spot.
Visuals from the accident site showed the truck parked on the right side of the four-lane highway, close to the divider, with a small tree branch placed at its rear, indicating that it had broken down and could not be moved. No reflector or warning signage was seen on the road, while the car was found mangled after ramming into the truck.
The mortal remains of Trisha Singh were brought to Ranchi in the afternoon after post-mortem at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur.
Former state health minister Banna Gupta, Mango Municipal Corporation mayor Sudha Gupta, JMM leader Kunal Sarangi and JMM MLA Sanjeev Sardar, among others, were present at the hospital.
After the body reached Ranchi, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato, Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, Health Minister Irfan Ansari and several MLAs, MPs and political leaders cutting across party lines offered condolences at the minister’s official residence.
“Today, I have no words. Deepika ji, Ratnesh ji, and the family have lost a life of innocent laughter and play. Marang Buru, grant peace to the departed soul and give the grieving family members the strength to bear this unbearable pain of sorrow,” Soren posted on X after offering condolences at the Minister’s residence here.
The last rites was performed here in Ranchi’s Sithio, an official said.
Earlier, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Soren and other leaders condoled the deaths.
“The news of the untimely demise of the daughter of Jharkhand government’s Minister for Rural Development, Dipika Pandey Singh ji, in a road accident on the national highway in Jamshedpur is extremely heart-breaking and soul-wrenching,” Gangwar said in a social media post.
“For a mother, the grief of losing her child cannot be expressed in words,” he added.
Soren said, “The extremely distressing and heart-wrenching news of the demise of fellow minister and sister Mrs Deepika Pandey Singh ji’s daughter and other individuals in a road accident on the national highway in Jamshedpur has left my heart profoundly grieved.”
“The pain of losing one’s child is beyond words and unbearable for any parent and family. In this extremely difficult time, my deepest condolences are with sister Deepika ji and the bereaved families. There are no words for this irreparable loss,” he said in a social media post.
“May Marang Buru grant peace to the souls of the departed and provide strength to the grieving families to bear this immense sorrow,” he added.
Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi said, “I am deeply heartbroken by the tragic news of the untimely demise of the girl injured in the road accident.”
BJP leader and former chief minister Champai Soren said the untimely demise of Trisha Singh was heartbreaking.
