Jaipur, Sep 22 (PTI) A 25-year-old man allegedly killed his grandmother by attacking her with a knife following an argument at their home in Jaipur on Tuesday, police said.
The incident took place in the Housing Board Colony under the Bhatta Basti police station area, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-II) Bajrang Singh said.
According to preliminary investigation, the accused, identified as Pulkit, argued with his grandmother, Vimla Devi, after she returned home from the Govind Devji temple in the afternoon, the officer said, adding that the accused may be mentally unwell.
Devi lived with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson. Her son and daughter-in-law had left for work in the morning, while Pulkit had gone to coaching classes, the police said.
After returning from the temple, Devi had a heated exchange with Pulkit and subsequently went to her room to sleep, the police said.
A short while later, Pulkit allegedly attacked her with a knife, seriously injuring her, they said.
Devi was rushed to Kanwatia Hospital, where she died during treatment, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dilip Kumar Meena said.
The police have taken Pulkit into custody and are questioning him to ascertain the motive behind the killing.
Evidence has been collected from the spot and people in the neighbourhood are being questioned, the police said.
