Simdega, Sep 25 An elderly man was trampled to death by an elephant in Jharkhand’s Simdega district on Friday evening, police said.
The incident took place in Dumaria panchayat under Bano police station limits.
Bano police station officer-in-charge Shyam Nandan Singh told reporters that Dagar Singh (69) was attacked by the elephant when he was going towards his farmland.
“His family members took him to a nearby community health centre where doctors declared him dead. We have informed the authorities concerned for payment of compensation to family members of the deceased,” Singh said.
The Jharkhand government provides a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for deaths caused by elephant attacks.
The body has been kept at Simdega Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination, the officer added.
