Thane, Sep 24 A day after a woman was found dead with injury marks on her body in Maharashtra’s Thane city, the police have arrested her husband and his accomplice from Nagpur for allegedly murdering her, officials said.
The woman, identified as Savitri Amol Waghmare (around 40 years), was found dead on September 22 afternoon at her house in Patlipada area of Thane West, and the two accused were held the next day, they said.
Senior Police Inspector Gorakhnath Gharge said an unidentified assailant had inflicted lethal, sharp-weapon injuries to her neck, head and back before absconding.
An FIR was registered under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and a team of senior police officials visited the spot to direct initial forensic and investigative procedures, he said.
While Kasarvadavali Police launched their primary probe, PI Gharge and his team at Wagle Crime Branch Unit 5 initiated a parallel investigation.
Through intensive technical analysis and reliable intelligence inputs, the crime branch team tracked the movement of two key suspects in Nagpur. Acting immediately on this lead, a specialised strike team was dispatched to the eastern Maharashtra city, officials said.
During the operation, the crime branch team located and detained both suspects on September 23. They were identified as the woman’s husband Amol Dilip Waghmare (45), an auto-rickshaw driver residing in Ajni, Nagpur, and Kripal Kishor Bhaisare (31), who also lived in that city.
The two suspects were brought back and subjected to rigorous interrogation. During the questioning, Waghmare confessed to the crime. He admitted that he suspected his wife’s character, and with the assistance of Bhaisare, he slit her throat with a knife before fleeing the city, Gharge said.
“Our technical analysis pinpointed the suspects’ location in Nagpur, allowing our team to nab both of them within 24 hours of taking up the parallel probe,” he added.
Both the accused have been handed over to Kasarvadavali police for further custody, formal arrest procedures, and recovery of the murder weapon, according to him.
