Bhopal, Sep 22 Establishing coordination among the prominent leaders of the state will be a challenge for Biplab Kumar Deb, former Tripura Chief Minister appointed as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, a political analyst said on Wednesday.
The BJP appointed Deb, MP from West Tripura, as in-charge for Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, replacing Mahendra Singh.
Political analyst and senior journalist Dinesh Gupta said that Deb’s most significant challenge would be establishing coordination and dialogue among the party’s “big leaders”.
He was referring to leaders such as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, state ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya and Prahlad Patel, and former Home Minister Narottam Mishra.
Talking to PTI, Gupta said, “The BJP organisation in Madhya Pradesh has historically held a distinct identity. However, neither that kind of organisation nor those dedicated cadres exist today. The BJP here has undergone ‘Congress-isation’ and the impact of this is visible.”
He cited the results of the Datia assembly by-election, which the Congress won, and alluded to the alleged infighting within the ruling party.
Gupta noted that local body elections are due in Madhya Pradesh prior to the 2028 assembly and 2029 Lok Sabha elections, which will put Deb’s organisational skills to test.
Before that, Deb would need to focus on strengthening the party’s support base while addressing the lack of communication within the party ranks, he said.
A BJP leader said that Deb is counted among the party’s young leaders and is known for his strong organisational skills.
“He played a key role in bringing the BJP to power in a Left-ruled state like Tripura. When he was appointed in-charge of Haryana, the BJP returned to power for a third consecutive term, defying political pundits who had predicted a victory for the Congress,” the leader said.
He also cited Deb’s work in Odisha.
Another party leader noted that Deb was entrusted with the responsibility of challenging areas such as Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas during the West Bengal Assembly elections and played a crucial role in securing 26 out of 49 seats in these regions for the BJP.
Another BJP leader said that Deb has worked closely with Madhya Pradesh leaders such as Uma Bharti and Satna MP Ganesh Singh and maintained a close relationship with leaders like Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Narendra Singh Tomar.
