New Delhi, Sep 26 Three men were apprehended and firearms recovered within 12 hours of an alleged firing incident during a quarrel between two groups near Kasturba Underpass in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area, police said on Saturday.
A PCR call regarding firing of gunshots in the air by three men was received at around 11 pm on Friday, following which a police team reached the spot near a Mohalla Clinic on the Main Road and found two empty cartridges lying there, they said.
During preliminary inquiry, police found that a quarrel had broken out between the complainant’s cousin Ishant and the accused persons, following which shots were allegedly fired in the air.
A case was registered under relevant section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, police said.
Through local intelligence, sustained investigation and verification of available information, the police teams ascertained the identities and whereabouts of the accused and apprehended them, officials said.
The accused were identified as Pratham alias Varun Bhudhiraja (24), Dhanjay Sharma alias Balak (24), both residents of Church Road in Shahdara, and Vivek Verma alias Yash Soni (20), a resident of Ramprath Colony in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Firearms were recovered from the accused during the investigation, police said, adding that the weapons are being examined as per procedure.
The police are investigating the source and ownership of the firearms and their alleged use in the incident. The previous involvement of the accused in criminal cases is also being verified.
Further investigation is underway.
