Guwahati, Sep 26 Complex heart surgeries with the help of robotic technology have been performed at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), officials said.
Three patients successfully underwent the surgery over two days till Saturday by the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department of the CN Centre of GMCH, under the supervision of Assam’s robotic heart surgery specialist Ritwick Raj Bhuyan.
A cardiac robotic surgery workshop was held at the CN Centre, also coinciding with the surgeries.
Attending the workshop, state Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal highlighted the importance of incorporating advanced technology in the state’s health sector.
Singhal said that the government has been giving special emphasis on making Assam’s healthcare system modern and stronger.
Providing advanced medical services to the people of the state within the state itself through the use of cutting-edge technology is one of the government’s goals, he said.
The initiation of robotic heart surgery at GMCH is an important step in that direction, he added.
The minister further said that it is necessary to incorporate state-of-the-art technology in the medical institutions of the state to keep pace with the rapid changes in medical science.
The combination of such technology and the knowledge and skills of specialist doctors will create new opportunities for providing advanced medical services to the patients of Assam, he said.
He expressed hope that this progress in the state’s health sector will create new possibilities in various complex treatment areas in the future.
