Kanpur (UP), Sep 26 Two men, an uncle and his nephew, were electrocuted and another worker critically injured after a metal grill they were installing came into contact with a high-tension power line at an apartment in Kanpur on Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred at Balaji Apartment in Keshavpuram, under the Rawatpur police station limits, when the three workers were measuring and preparing to install a grill at a flat.
The deceased were identified as Abhishek Pal, 25, and his uncle Mithilesh alias Chhotu, 40, both residents of Rawatpur. Their associate, Rizwan, a resident of Maswanpur, suffered serious burn injuries and was admitted to a private hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.
According to police, the workers were lifting the metal grill when part of it came into contact with a high-tension line passing above the apartment. The grill became electrically charged, causing all three workers to suffer electric shocks.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Dilip Kumar Singh said police reached the spot after receiving information that three workers had suffered electric shocks.
Two were found dead, while the third was seriously injured and taken to hospital, he added.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, the ACP said, adding that further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation and a complaint.
Rawatpur SHO Kamlesh Rai said a preliminary inquiry suggested that the accident occurred when the grill being lifted came into contact with the high-tension line.
Police are examining the circumstances of the incident, including the position of the power line and conditions at the site.
Police said the flat is associated with a woman identified as Helena, who is connected with a prominent educational institution but does not reside there.
Mithilesh’s wife worked at the apartment, following which the three workers had gone there to install the grill, police said.
