New Delhi, Sep 26 The VHP on Saturday accused the Congress of following “anti-India” and “appeasement” politics and attacking constitutional institutions, while hitting out at Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for calling the Sangh Parivar the biggest threat to the country and democracy.
The remarks came a day after Reddy said the political contest is between the “Sangh Parivar” and the “Gandhi Parivar”, alleging that the former is trying to divide the country on the basis of caste, religion, region and language.
“The fight is between Sangh Parivar and Gandhi Parivar. I am asking this nation to stand with Gandhi Parivar to defeat Sangh Parivar,” he had said while receiving the Aryadan Muhammed Award in Malappuram, Keralam.
“Sangh Parivar is the biggest threat to the country and democracy. I am there to sacrifice my life for Gandhi Parivar to save this country,” Reddy said.
He said his only remaining ambition is to make Rahul Gandhi the prime minister of India.
Reacting to Reddy’s statement, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said the Sangh Parivar stands for patriotism and respect for constitutional institutions and positions, while the Congress stands for “treason” and attacks on constitutional institutions.
“On one side is patriotism and on the other is treason. On one side is respect and regard for constitutional institutions, while on the other, they carry copies of the Constitution but attack constitutional institutions and constitutional positions. They have no faith in the Constitution of the country, the rule of law or the judiciary. What kind of Gandhi they are, the world knows,” Bansal said.
Bansal said despite several bans on the Sangh and repeated setbacks in the courts, the Congress does not want to bring any change in its “character and conduct”.
He said the Congress should now stop calling such people “Gandhi” and come out of its “anti-India mindset”.
Bansal also alleged that the Congress has a long-standing “appeasement” mindset and is now standing directly with “anti-national forces” while attacking those working for the country.
“This is not something that has happened only today. It goes back a long way. Since India became independent, from the Nehru era itself, appeasement of extremist elements and keeping Hindus as second-class citizens have been an important part of the Congress’ mindset,” he said.
Referring to the recent screening controversy involving a documentary on jailed activist Umar Khalid, Bansal alleged that the Congress is supporting people with an “extremist” mindset.
Bansal alleged that the Congress’ policy of “appeasement” has harmed the party itself.
“The Congress has belonged neither to Hindus nor to Muslims. Yes, it is so deeply immersed in the policy of appeasement that its own policy has drowned it,” he said.
He said it is time for the Congress to apologise to Hindu society and refrain from promoting people with a “terrorist mindset” like Umar Khalid.
