Chandigarh, Sep 25 The manifesto committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal on Friday said that it would include only those suggestions that could be implemented and backed treating the declaration as a legal document.
Committee member secretary and senior SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema said that, led by its chairman Balwinder Singh Bhundar, the panel collected suggestions from the party’s Scheduled Caste, Backward Caste and Bazigar Front wings.
The representatives of the wings met the manifesto committee separately and gave their suggestions in writing, he said.
Cheema said senior leaders, including Backward Caste wing president Hira Singh Gabhriya and Bazigar Front chairman Davinder Singh Dayal, participated in the meetings and gave their suggestions.
“Former legislators and district presidents also participated in the meetings,” he said.
Stating that the committee would also take feedback from the party’s women, youth, trader, NRI and employee fronts as well as farmers, Cheema said, “We would also visit various parts of the state so that the sentiments of the common man can be recorded.”
“The party decided to conduct this detailed exercise as Punjabis feel that both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party betrayed them in 2022 by releasing manifestos, even though the promises remained on paper only.
“We are committed to implementing every clause in our manifesto, and that is why we are discussing each suggestion and its financial obligations,” Cheema said.
According to a party statement, the committee would only include suggestions which could be implemented and treat the declaration as a legal document.
Assembly elections are due in Punjab early next year.
