Pune, Aug 25 With the Ganesh festival drawing to a close on Friday, the idols of five prominent Ganpati mandals in Pune, including the five ‘manache’ or traditionally most prestigious ones, were immersed after processions were taken out amid beats of drums and chants of the deity.
The idols of the five ‘manache’ Ganpati were immersed by 6 pm, while that of Pune’s famous Shrimant Dagadusheth Halwai Ganpati was immersed around 8.30 pm.
The immersion procession began around 9 am on Saturday with the first manacha Ganapati, Kasba Ganapati, starting the journey. The idol was immersed at 4.40 pm.
The other four Ganapatis — Tambadi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Tulshibaug, and Kesriwada — were immersed by 6 pm.
The idol of Dagadusheth Ganpati was immersed around 8.30 pm.
A large number of devotees thronged the Alka Talkies Chowk, a prominent intersection in the city where all dhol-tasha troupes accompanying the Ganesh mandals perform, to catch a glimpse of Lord Ganesh.
After that, several other prominent mandals — Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganapati, Akhil Mandai Ganapati Mandal, and Hutatma Babu Genu Mandal — set out for the immersion.
