Guwahati, Sep 25 A Supreme Court committee will hold a two-day conference from Saturday in Guwahati on family disputes, an official statement said.
The conference — ‘ADR vs Adjudication in Family Disputes: Challenges and Way Forward’ — will be organised by the Committee for Family Court Matters, Supreme Court of India, in association with the Gauhati High Court, it said.
“The conference seeks to facilitate exchange of experiences and best practices for effective, sensitive and timely resolution of family disputes, while exploring the appropriate role of ADR (alternative dispute resolution) alongside adjudication,” it added.
The event will be inaugurated by Supreme Court judge and the committee’s chairperson, Justice B V Nagarathna, it added.
Supreme Court judges, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N V Anjaria, who are members of the committee, will be the chief guests, while the inaugural session will be presided over by Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar.
The conference will bring together judges, judicial officers, senior advocates, mediators and experts for deliberations on key issues concerning justice in family matters, including domestic violence and welfare of senior citizens, marriage, divorce and restitution of conjugal rights, custody of children, shared parenting and visitation rights, maintenance and alimony, and division and partition of property.
Strengthening human resources and infrastructure of family courts will also be discussed, the statement said.
An e-compendium of judgments of the Supreme Court and high courts of the eastern zone on family matters will also be released during the inaugural session, it added.
