New Delhi, Sep 25 The BJP on Friday alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his party are hatching a conspiracy to create distrust in the country’s democracy because they have understood that they have lost people’s trust.
“We want to tell Rahul Gandhi that you are done bro because people of the country are seeing your reality that you are attempting to create a democratic deficit,” BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhanadari told PTI Videos.
“People of India and youth of India are seeing your conspiracy and they will continue to punish you like they have been punishing you in a democratic manner since 2014,” he added.
The ruling party’s remarks came after the Congress accused the Election Commission of carrying out an “unprecedented attack” on voter equality by allegedly creating a specific ‘Mark VIP’ feature in the BLO application and urged Kumar to either turn “approver” or face trial.
Upping the ante over the SIR row, the Congress on Friday held protests by attempting to march towards state election commission offices in various parts of the country, demanding Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar’s immediate arrest, removal from office, and an independent review of all decisions and electoral roll changes made under him.
Several senior leaders, including the party’s deputy leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, and workers were detained as police used barricades to stop them from marching towards the state election commission offices in various state capitals.
In a no-holds-barred attack, Gandhi on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the CEC are “deshdrohis” (traitors) who have “destroyed” India’s voting system and asked the poll panel chief to immediately resign and turn an “approver”.
Hitting back, Bhandari said, “The Congress party and Rahul Gandhi have realised that they have democratically lost people’s trust. So now, they are hatching a conspiracy to sow distrust in India’s democracy.”
The people of the country, including youth, are watching this conspiracy, the BJP spokesperson said.
“That is why they have been making Rahul Gandhi sit in the opposition benches,” he added.
Bhandari further alleged that Gandhi’s “Jhooth ki Goonj” is echoing within the Congress itself with the home minister of Kerala, ruled by the Congress, making statements in favour of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
“He is saying that the Congress won elections in Kerala due to SIR,” the BJP leader said, without naming the Kerala home minister.
“Therefore, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party must decide whether they are in favour of the SIR or against it,” he added.
