Lucknow, Sep 25 Ten people wanted in different criminal cases were arrested following police encounters in Bahraich, Jhansi, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar, with several of them sustaining bullet injuries, officials said on Friday.
The accused were wanted in cases involving snatching, robbery, dowry death, theft from closed meat-processing units and the murder of a 19-year-old youth, police said, adding that all these encounters took place on Thursday.
In Bahraich, brothers Salman and Arif, alias Taslim, were arrested after an encounter in Fakharpur in connection with the snatching of a woman’s mangalsutra on September 21. Salman sustained a bullet injury in his leg. Police recovered a country-made pistol, cartridges, a stolen motorcycle and the mangalsutra, Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava said.
In Jhansi, three accused were arrested in two separate encounters. Mohammed Sultan and Salim were held in connection with the September 24 robbery of a railway passenger and his friend, while Yash Thakur, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000, was arrested in a dowry death case. Sultan and Thakur suffered bullet injuries in their legs, police said.
In Meerut, Danish, alias Chacha, Shehzad, alias Bhura and Riyazuddin, alias Riyazu, were arrested for allegedly stealing metal plates from two closed meat factories in Lohiyanagar.
Danish was injured in an encounter. Police recovered three country-made pistols and two cartridges and said the three had several criminal cases against them.
In Muzaffarnagar, Nazim and Shavez were arrested after an encounter in the Purkazi area in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Rohan Rathi, son of a village head. Both sustained bullet injuries, police said.
Police recovered Rohan’s motorcycle, a car allegedly used in the crime, two pistols, cartridges and a mobile phone, they added.
Police said teams had been formed in the respective cases to trace the accused, and further legal proceedings were underway.
