Raipur, Sep 24 The BJP on Thursday appointed Karmveer Singh as its Chhattisgarh state general secretary (organisation), replacing Pawan Sai, who held the post for a decade.
Sai has been shifted to Jharkhand as the BJP’s state general secretary (organisation), a position held by Karmveer Singh since August 2022.
The appointments are part of an organisational reshuffle announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Thursday, under which Singh will be based in Raipur and Sai in Ranchi.
Sai, who hails from Sirimkela village in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district, had been serving as the BJP’s Chhattisgarh state general secretary (organisation) since 2016, a party functionary here said.
During his tenure, the BJP lost the 2018 Chhattisgarh assembly elections after being in power for three consecutive terms since 2003 under the then chief minister Raman Singh. However, during his stint, the party returned to power in the 2023 assembly polls, defeating the Congress.
Sai was credited with strengthening coordination within the organisation and mobilising workers during the 2023 assembly elections.
He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a pracharak in 1993 and subsequently served as khand pracharak, zila pracharak and vibhag pracharak at different places in the state, the functionary said.
In 2013, he was appointed BJP’s divisional organisation secretary for the Bilaspur division and served as the party’s state joint secretary (organisation) from 2014 to 2016 before being appointed state’s general secretary (organisation) in April 2016, he said.
Karmveer Singh, originally from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district, began his life as an RSS pracharak in 1993, the party leader said.
He subsequently served as a pracharak, district pracharak, divisional pracharak and joint prant pracharak before being appointed BJP Uttar Pradesh’s state joint general secretary (organisation) in 2020, he said.
Since August 2022, he had been serving as BJP Jharkhand’s state general secretary (organisation), the functionary said.
Reacting to the organisational changes, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said such changes are a continuous process and welcomed Karmveer Singh to the state.
“Organisational changes are a continuous process. Pawan bhai sahib has been an architect of the organisation for a long time and strengthened the Chhattisgarh organisation. Karmveer ji is now coming in his place and we will work under his guidance,” he told reporters.
In a post on ‘X’, the CM congratulated Karmveer Singh and said his organisational experience and coordination with workers would provide a new direction and momentum to the Chhattisgarh BJP.
The CM wrote, ” Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Karmveer Singh ji on being entrusted with the responsibility of State General Secretary (Organization) of the BJP, Chhattisgarh, by the National President Nitin Navin ji”.
He said he was confident that Singh’s organisational experience and seamless coordination with party workers would provide a new direction and momentum to the Chhattisgarh BJP, further strengthening its organisational activities.
“A warm welcome to the Chhattisgarh BJP family. My best wishes for the successful discharge of this new responsibility,” he added.
In another post, the CM congratulated Pawan Sai on his appointment in Jharkhand and recalled his contribution to strengthening the BJP organisation in Chhattisgarh.
