Guwahati, Sep 23 Two persons have been apprehended and over 1,500 kg of poppy seeds seized in Assam’s Hojai district, officials said on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), in a social media post, said the consignment was seized from a truck.
“Acting on reliable information, Lanka Police intercepted a truck on NH-27 and recovered 49 bags containing 1,527.35 kg of suspected poppy seeds concealed beneath bamboo mats,” it said.
The driver and helper were detained, and necessary legal action is underway, the CMO said, adding that the chief minister has lauded the police efforts.
