Chennai, Sep 24 Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) announced the upcoming launch of its new Tamil general entertainment channel, Sony Vizha, scheduled to go on air on October 19, at 8 pm.
In a press release by SPNI, Sony Vizha (festival) will bring Tamil Nadu’s distinctive spirit to life, under the brand promise of “Ithu Namma Vibe” or “this is our vibe”, focusing on the state’s contemporary culture, language, and everyday experiences.
Sony Vizha aims to merge global television formats with regional talent and stories crafted for Tamil audiences. The initial programming lineup will debut with Tamil adaptations of major international reality shows. This includes ‘Celebrity MasterChef Tamil’ featuring actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and ‘Tamil Idol’ featuring composer A R Rahman, according to the release issued on September 23.
Rajaraman Sundaram, Chief Content Officer, South Regional at SPNI, stated that the channel was created to celebrate Tamil Nadu as a confident and evolving state while remaining deeply rooted in its traditions.
SPNI, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, currently operates 29 premium channels in India and reaches over 700 million viewers. With this launch, the network expands its regional footprint to deliver differentiated Tamil entertainment across generations.
