Jaipur, Sep 25 Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday detained a senior statistical officer of the central government for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000, officials said.
The accused, Mukesh Malya, is posted as a senior statistical officer with the Field Operations Division of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation in Jaipur.
DG ACB Govind Gupta said a Jaipur-based firm, engaged in manufacturing gems and precious stones, had been issued a registration certificate by the ministry.
According to the complaint, Malya allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 from the firm while threatening to impose a penalty on it.
After verifying the complaint, a team of the ACB laid a trap and caught him allegedly accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant.
During the operation, Malya informed officials that he was undergoing treatment for a kidney-related ailment. He was then taken to a hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
A case will be registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation will be carried out, the DG ACB said.
