Muzaffarnagar, Sep 25 A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast-track court in Kairana in Shamli district for murdering a Class 12 student in 2017 after she objected to his inappropriate behaviour.
Special Judge Ritu Nagar convicted Amarpal under Section 302 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him. The court directed that 80 per cent of the fine be paid to the victim’s family, District Government Counsel Sanjay Chauhan told PTI on Thursday.
The court acquitted two other accused, Surendra and Sunder, for lack of evidence, while a fourth accused was tried as a juvenile, Chauhan said.
According to the prosecution, the girl was returning home from school in Shyam Ghari village on December 13, 2017, when Amarpal allegedly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon.
Amarpal, who harboured feelings for the girl, attacked her after she objected to his inappropriate behaviour, the prosecution said.
The girl’s brother had lodged a complaint against four persons, including Amarpal, Surendra, Sunder and the juvenile, in connection with the murder.
