New Delhi, Sep 25 Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) on Friday reviewed security around the campus, with enhanced patrolling and other safety measures being implemented in the area following the alleged rape of a minor at the nearby Aastha Kunj Park.
The LSR Students’ Union said it is receiving regular updates on increased patrolling around the college, including in the National Park and Vikram Vihar. This includes patrolling by the Delhi Police’s Pink Squad.
On Thursday, the college said a WhatsApp group comprising the LSR administration, students’ union and senior police personnel was created to facilitate timely action and enable students to report incidents and concerns.
The presence of police personnel has been ensured at the Pink Booth near the college and at its back gate, while work is underway to improve street lighting on the road behind the college, the students’ union said.
Security is being fortified at specific locations around the college that the students identified as unsafe or requiring attention, it said.
These were “important steps”, the students’ union said, stressing that the process would continue, with efforts focused on checking whether the measures were visible and effective on the ground.
It urged students to continue sharing their experiences and feedback on what has improved, what remains unchanged and what requires further attention.
The measures followed the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl inside Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir on Monday.
The incident, which occurred around 2 kilometres from the college, had triggered concerns among students, particularly over their safety while travelling to and from the campus in the evenings.
Several LSR students participated in a solidarity march on Wednesday demanding better security infrastructure and highlighting safety concerns they said had existed even before the unfortunate incident.
The college administration, students’ union and senior Delhi Police officials had also held an open dialogue with students on the issue.
LSR resumed offline classes on Thursday after cancelling them on Tuesday and shifting the classes online on Wednesday amid safety concerns.
