Korba, Sep 24 A 55-year-old farmer died after allegedly consuming pesticide in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district apparently due to some family-related issues, officials said.
The victim was identified as Pardesi Ram Kanwar, a resident of Bagbuda village under Urga police station limits.
He consumed pesticide on Wednesday and was rushed to a hospital after his condition deteriorated. However, he died during treatment, the police said.
Kanwar owned three acres of agricultural land and used to manage farming activities on his own, his family members said.
His son, Sunil Kumar, told the police that his father had been under stress as other family members were not paying adequate attention to farming work, leaving him to shoulder the responsibility of managing the agricultural operations.
Kanwar had also taken a loan of Rs 25,000 from a cooperative society, the officials said.
However, Collector Kunal Dudawat said the cooperative society had not issued any loan recovery notice to Kanwar. Statements recorded from his wife and son suggested that family-related issues, rather than loan, may have been the reason behind his death, they said.
The exact reason behind Kanwar’s death would be established after completion of the investigation, according to them.
Aastha Verma, station house officer of the Civil Lines police station, said statements of the family members were recorded on the basis of a memo received from the hospital.
The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination, and further inquest proceedings and legal action are underway, the police said.
