Akola, Sep 23 Observing that the prolonged dry spell has significantly affected crops such as tur and soybean, among others, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said the government is standing firmly behind farmers and will provide financial assistance.
Shinde visited Dadham and Vyala villages in Balapur taluka of Akola district and interacted with farmers.
“Farmers are facing a crisis due to low rainfall. However, they must not lose heart as the government stands firmly behind them. They will receive substantial assistance,” Shinde said.
Shinde inspected crop damage at the farms of G.T. Jadhav in Dadham and Savita Washimkar in Vyala.
“The government will ensure that the upcoming Diwali won’t be bleak for our farmers. The state cabinet has discussed the issue and an official notification (on drought-like conditions) is expected soon,” he added.
Describing the farmer as the provider, he asserted that they have the first right to the government treasury.
