Imphal, Sept 25 The bodies of four men, who were allegedly shot dead by suspected militants, were found in Manipur’s Kamjong district in the early hours on Friday, police said.
The bodies, bearing bullet marks, were found at an isolated spot near the Myanmar border in remote Pilong village, nearly 34 km from the district headquarters, around 1.30 am following a prolonged search by police and locals, they said.
The deceased were identified as Vareishim Jajo, Phami Jajo, Betterson Jajo and Ningthem Kashak, all belonging to the Tangkhul Naga community, they added.
The bodies are being brought to Kamjong district hospital for post-mortem examinations, police said.
Locals alleged militants from neighbouring Myanmar crossed into India and ambushed a group of five villagers on Thursday. One of them managed to escape and alert local authorities.
Naga Peoples’ Front state president Awangbou Newmai condemned the killings, alleging that members of the Kuki National Army (Burma) were behind it.
He appealed to all communities to “shun violence” and “co-exist as peaceful neighbours”.
