Mumbai, Sept 23 Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Wednesday said the civic administration will follow the Bombay High Court’s directives regarding the use of DJs, lasers and bursting of firecrackers during the Ganesh idol immersion procession in the metropolis.
The immersion procession will be taken out on September 25, the last day of the Ganesh festival.
Replying to a question about the Bombay HC’s directive on DJs, lasers, and firecrackers in a press conference at the civic headquarters, Tawde also appealed to citizens to follow the order.
Festivals can be celebrated without causing noise and air pollution, the HC said on Tuesday, while ordering a complete ban on the bursting of firecrackers on public roads. It also said the use of loudspeakers, DJs and laser beams during religious processions was “completely unwarranted”.
Tawde said, “It is our duty to follow whatever directives the honourable high court has given. Be it the BMC, the administration or the public, we are all following the order.”
There has been no use of DJs or laser so far, she said, adding that if any order is issued by the high court, the administration will ensure its adherence.
She also highlighted that the civic body has set up free of cost facilities for the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols at 387 artificial lakes and other natural water bodies across Mumbai, and asked the citizens not to pay money to anyone for the immersion of their Ganapati idols at these locations.
