Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Sep 26 Tamil Nadu Minister R Nirmal Kumar on Saturday predicted a rapid political decline for the opposition DMK within two years, comparing it to what he called the “leadership bankruptcy” of the AIADMK, and asserted that only the TVK would remain a “principled” political force in the state.
Reacting to recent remarks by former chief minister M K Stalin on AIADMK leaders and cadres joining the ruling TVK, Nirmal Kumar said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, founded by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, had emerged as the sole “principled” party in Tamil Nadu.
Launching a scathing attack on the two Dravidian majors, the Energy Resources and Law minister alleged that both were primarily focused on safeguarding their families’ assets rather than serving the people, and claimed both parties faced inevitable political erosion.
He alleged that the AIADMK had abandoned the founding ideals of late Chief Ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa and had now become “Edappadi Palaniswami’s AIADMK”.
“The current AIADMK leadership is driven purely by self-interest and protecting family wealth. Veteran leaders and organisational pillars have walked away because the party no longer offers a vision for public service,” the minister said, predicting that the DMK would suffer a similar loss of public trust under its current leadership.
“Where are the leaders and cadres in the AIADMK now? The DMK will meet the same fate as the AIADMK in two years,” he said.
Nirmal Kumar also said Vijay would launch the Thaimaman Thangam Thittam, a gold-ring scheme for newborns, in Madurai on September 28, describing the welfare initiative as aimed at supporting underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society.
