Chennai, Sep 26 A special eKYC biometric verification camp will be held at all fair price shops across Tamil Nadu on Saturday ensure 100 per cent completion of Aadhaar authentication for public distribution scheme beneficiaries.
A senior official from the Civil Supplies Department said that the central government under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, has mandated fingerprint-based biometric authentication (eKYC) for all beneficiaries linked to Priority Household (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cards.
According to the official, to avoid causing inconvenience to cardholders, the verification drive has been ongoing since October 2023.
So far, 96.57 per cent of eKYC verification for priority cardholders has been successfully completed, he added.
To achieve 100 per cent completion, the special camp is being organized from 9 AM to 5 PM across all ration shops in the state, except in areas where by-elections are scheduled (Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies).
Ration cardholders who have not yet completed their biometric registration are urged to visit their respective fair price shops and update their eKYC without fail, the official said.
