Mumbai, Sep 26 Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Saturday led a beach clean-up drive at Juhu Beach here, emphasising that keeping Mumbai’s shores clean is an emotional commitment to the city rather than just a civic duty.
Organised by the Divyaj Foundation alongside the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai police, the event, held a day after Ganesh immersion processions, brought together actor Ajay Devgn, civic chief Ashwini Bhide, and state Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha to promote marine waste management.
“The sea gives Mumbai its identity, its beauty and its spirit. Keeping our shores clean is not just a civic responsibility, it is an emotional commitment to the city we love,” said Amruta Fadnavis, who heads the Divyaj Foundation.
The initiative aimed to encourage more people, particularly the youth, to take ownership of the environment and protect Mumbai’s coastline, she said.
Speaking at the drive, Devgn said clean beaches were not the responsibility of one organisation or authority alone; they reflect collective discipline and concern of citizens.
The actor urged students and youngsters to take responsibility for keeping their city, country and beaches clean, saying small efforts can bring about change.
“Just as we love our homes and keep them clean, I think we also love our country, our city and our sea. So, keeping our city and our country clean is also our responsibility,” he said.
The drive sought to raise awareness about marine pollution, post-festival waste management and sustained civic participation in protecting the coastline.
