Thane, Sep 26 An 84-year-old petrol pump owner was allegedly verbally abused and assaulted by a man in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Saturday.
The Narpoli police have registered a first information report (FIR) under sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the public peace) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in connection with the incident that occurred on September 20, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sachin Sangale said.
He said that the victim, Murlidhar Mahadu Pichad, a member of the Mahadev Koli tribal community, was supervising the construction of a protective wall at his petrol pump in Dapode when the accused, Karan Suresh Patil, allegedly arrived at the scene, stopped the work, and used casteist slurs against Pichad and his son.
The accused also assaulted them and threatened further violence, he said, adding that a probe is underway.
