Aizawl, Sep 25 One more person was arrested in connection with the killing of an Army man in Mizoram’s Kolasib district, taking the total number of people nabbed in the case to nine, a police officer said on Friday.
The 31-year-old male accused, a resident of Kawnpui town in the district, was subsequently jailed, the officer, who declined to be named, told PTI.
Zakaria Lalhriattluanga (29), serving in the Assam Regiment and deployed in Jammu and Kashmir, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of youth in Kolasib on September 20 while returning to his native village New Builum.
Earlier, the police had on Monday arrested eight people, including a woman and two minors, for their alleged involvement in the killing.
Six adults were sent to the district jail, while the two minors were handed over to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
Meanwhile, Home Minister K Sapdanga is scheduled to visit Zakaria’s parents on Saturday to offer condolences and hand over ex-gratia assistance to the bereaved family, officials said.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday condemned the killing of the Army man and said the episode brought disrepute to the state and its people.
