Kochi, Sep 25 A man was taken into custody for allegedly making derogatory remarks online against saint-reformer Sri Narayana Guru on Friday, police said.
Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police registered the case after receiving a complaint about a YouTube video in which the accused allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Guru.
Police said the case was registered against Muvattupuzha native K V Subash, who was taken into custody as part of the probe.
The accused allegedly made derogatory remarks against Sri Narayana Guru, the Ezhava community and members associated with the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, police said.
Police said the remarks allegedly sought to insult and defame the dignity and reputation of the Guru and the community, besides disrupting public peace and provoking hatred between communities.
Subash is the Tantri of a temple in Muvattupuzha, police said.
The case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Police are interrogating the accused, and his arrest will be recorded soon, officials said.
