Patna, Sep 25 A case has been registered against an employee of the Bihar Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for allegedly uploading a photograph of family members of the minor girl involved in the Jamui molestation case on social media, police said on Friday.
Information about the photograph was received on Friday, and an investigation has been initiated, the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police’s Social Media Cell said in a statement.
“The incident, involving alleged indecent behaviour with the minor and her companion, was reported through a video circulated on social media on September 19. Jamui police had subsequently taken legal action in the matter,” said the statement.
The development came after RJD’s Lok Sabha MP Misa Bharti submitted an application seeking an impartial inquiry and urging that no person be held guilty without investigation.
“The application has been made part of the ongoing probe, and the matter is being investigated impartially based on available facts and evidence”, police said.
It may be recalled that the CM’s office on Thursday drew flak from the opposition RJD for revealing the identity of the minor girl from Jamui district who was molested a few days ago and who had come along with her family to meet the BJP leader.
The social media post was, however, quickly taken off the X handle of the CM, even as RJD’s national working president, Tejashwi Yadav, saved a screenshot to target Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Earlier in the day, Yadav, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the assembly, told reporters, “The CM has committed a serious crime by revealing the identity of the minor victim of the Jamui incident along with her family. If no action is taken against the CM under Section 23 of the POCSO Act-2012, we will explore legal options and hold Bihar Police a party”.
The teenage girl and a boy, who were said to be studying at the same coaching centre, were caught hold of by a group of people on a road and allegedly harassed on September 19. Video clips circulating on social media purportedly showed the girl being molested.
The police nabbed five people, including three minors, in this connection so far.
