Thane, Sep 25 The Thane Zilla Parishad has launched ‘Swachh Seva Aakalan’ to evaluate, verify and enhance the sustainability of sanitation services across rural areas, an official said on Friday.
ZP Chief executive officer Ranjit Yadhav said Thane district currently has 706 Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus villages, of which 627 have successfully evolved into ODF Plus (Model) villages.
The ‘Swachh Seva Aakalan’ is an annual digital self-assessment tool designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability at the Gram Panchayat level, he said.
According to Pandit Rathod, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Swachh Bharat Mission), this evaluation ensures the operational functionality and proper maintenance of solid and liquid waste management assets in ODF Plus (Model) villages.
It focuses on five major parameters, namely ODF sustainability, solid and liquid waste management (SLWM), visual cleanliness, operation and maintenance of SLWM assets and upkeep of Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs).
Gram panchayat secretaries will upload baseline data via the e-GramSwaraj portal, which will be reviewed and approved during local gram sabhas to encourage community involvement, the official said.
The data will be analysed to address operational gaps and formulate improvement plans, he said.
