New Delhi, Sep 25 Over 100 children from two state-supported residential schools in Meerut experienced the Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro services during an educational trip organised by the NCRTC under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, with a focus on cleanliness and responsible use of public spaces.
Students and teachers from Vihan Girls’ Residential School and Vihan Boys’ Residential School, which provide education to children of workers and labourers, visited Begumpul Namo Bharat station along with officials of the Meerut Labour Department, the corporation said.
The students travelled on Namo Bharat and were briefed about its features, technology and operations. They also experienced speeds of up to 160 kmph, along with the train’s air-conditioned coaches and passenger amenities, it said.
The students also travelled on the Meerut Metro, which operates on the same infrastructure as Namo Bharat, giving them an understanding of how regional and local transport services are integrated, according to the corporation.
NCRTC officials also organised a quiz on Namo Bharat and briefed the students about measures taken to maintain cleanliness across the rapid transit system.
The session focused on the role of passengers in keeping shared spaces clean, with the students taking a cleanliness pledge and being encouraged to make hygiene and responsible behaviour part of their daily lives, it mentioned.
The schools operate under a welfare scheme funded by the Labour Department, Uttar Pradesh, through the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
The Namo Bharat corridor has recorded more than 4.5 crore passenger journeys since operations began, while its highest-ever daily ridership crossed 1.68 lakh passengers, it added.
