Jaipur, Sep 25 Rajasthan Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully on Friday accused the BJP government of using police and administrative machinery to influence the urban local body elections, alleging that it had “crossed all limits”.
His remarks came as elections for the mayoral posts of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations were held on Friday.
In a statement, Jully alleged that the elections were being conducted under pressure from those in power and through “fear and political hooliganism”.
“The BJP government has not only trampled upon democratic norms in the urban local body elections but has crossed all limits of the democratic system in its arrogance of power,” he said.
Jully claimed that police and the administration were applying different standards to BJP and Congress and alleged that the government machinery was being used to help the ruling party gain control of civic bodies.
He alleged that using state power to overturn or influence a mandate given by voters amounted to “murder of democracy”.
The Congress has repeatedly accused the BJP government of misusing police and administrative machinery during elections for the heads of urban local bodies.
