Ahmedabad, Sep 24 A resident doctor at the new civil hospital in Surat allegedly ended his life by cutting his wrist on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Dr Yogendra Prajapati, a third-year resident doctor, allegedly slashed his wrist inside the dissection hall of the anatomy department of the medical college attached to the hospital, said in-charge Medical Superintendent Dr Parul Vadgama.
“He had been in the dissection hall since morning and was involved in the undergraduate students’ examination. His own third-year exams had concluded last week, and he was completing some remaining terms,” she said.
Dr Prajapati lived in the college hostel with his wife. The reasons for his extreme step were not clear, college officials said.
On August 9, a 30-year-old student identified as Harsh Pandya allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside his hostel room at the same college.
Probe found that the first-year student of the microbiology department had faced verbal abuse and humiliation, and four senior resident doctors were subsequently booked in a criminal case and suspended.
