New Delhi, Sep 24 Two sisters have alleged that police personnel assaulted and sexually harassed them inside a northwest Delhi police station when they went there to file a complaint against a makeup studio.
Police denied the claim, stating that necessary legal action was taken after one of the women allegedly assaulted a female staffer.
The sisters claimed they were made to wait in the Ashok Vihar police station for around five to six hours on September 21 during their visit, and male and female police personnel allegedly assaulted them after they started recording the proceedings.
The sisters alleged that their clothes were torn and they were taken to a dark room. They sought an impartial enquiry and action against those responsible.
Police, however, denied the allegations and said the matter relates to a civil dispute between the complainant and a makeup studio.
According to police, the SHO of Subhash Place police station, Additional DCP and the DCP of Northwest district heard the woman’s grievances.
Police said they told the two women the dispute was civil in nature and should be pursued through appropriate legal channels, and that an FIR could not be registered merely on their demand.
Police alleged that the woman became angry and assaulted a female police officer, after which necessary legal action was taken against her.
Police said they are examining the sisters’ allegations and police version, and further action will depend on the outcome of the enquiry.
