Koraput (Odisha), Sep 24 A school teacher went missing when the boat in which he and a friend were fishing in the backwaters of the Kolab reservoir in Koraput district capsized on Thursday, an official said.
Koraput tehsildar Sayeed Sabir Saha said the missing teacher was identified as Bhimadhar Nayak, a resident of Bandhaguda village under Padmapur panchayat.
“Bhimadhar Nayak and his friend had gone fishing in the reservoir around 7.30 am on Thursday. While they were pulling the fishing net from the water, their country boat capsized and both fell into the water”, said the tehsildar.
Saha said the friend managed to swim to the bank, while the teacher went missing.
“A search operation had been launched to trace the missing teacher,” said District emergency officer Swaranjita Majhi.
He said fire personnel and an ODRAF team have been pressed into service to search for the missing teacher.
The incident came amid heavy rainfall in several parts of Koraput district triggered by the deep depression.
