Panchkula, Sep 24 Panchkula Police has impounded a motorcycle driven by a 14-year-old and issued a challan of Rs 31,000 for multiple traffic violations, including riding without a helmet and using an illegal siren, officials said.
DCP Crime and Traffic Amrinder Singh said on Wednesday that a police team conducting checks near Parshuram Chowk in Sector 14 stopped the Class 8 student, who was riding the motorcycle without a helmet and using an illegal siren.
Several traffic violations were found during the checking, following which the police issued a challan and impounded the motorcycle, he said.
Panchkula Police said special checking drives are being conducted at major crossings and other sensitive areas to prevent road accidents and ensure public safety.
Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain appealed to parents not to allow children below 18 years of age without a valid driving licence to drive vehicles.
Allowing minors to drive puts their lives at risk and can also endanger other road users, he said.
Nain also warned that strict action would be taken against those using illegal sirens or creating a nuisance on roads.
According to the police, teams are also regularly visiting schools to educate students about road safety and traffic rules.
