Gumla, Sep 23 Two persons, including a BSF jawan, were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in Jharkhand’s Gumla district on Wednesday, police said.
The BSF jawan identified as Bhado Kerketta (50) died while his wife Urmila Kerketta sustained serious injuries after a car hit their scooter near Marda river in Semra forest area.
Palkot police station officer-in-charge Ankit Raj said that three persons in the car, identified as Laxman Oraon (32), a resident of Basia Tana Toli, along with his wife Renu Oraon and their one-year-old daughter, were also injured in the accident.
“After being informed by locals, we reached the spot and rushed the injured to Gumla Sadar Hospital, where Bhado Kerketta was declared dead. All others are undergoing treatment,” the police officer said.
Bhado Kerketta had returned home on leave for about a fortnight and was going towards his village in Palkot from Gumla when the incident took place.
“We have seized both the vehicles and have begun an investigation. No complaints have been filed by any party so far,” said Ankit Raj.
In another head-on collision between an SUV and a bike near Ursuline Convent along Ranchi-Gumla Main Road under Gumla Town Police Station, the bike driver Mahesh Mahato, a resident of Sisai, died on the spot.
Gumla Town police station officer in charge, Dinesh Kumar, said that the SUV driver, after fleeing from the spot, dashed against another bike near Madrasa Islamia injuring two persons.
“The deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem at the Gumla Sadar Hospital while the two injured have been admitted in the same hospital,” the police officer said.
