Dimapur, Sep 23 A fire destroyed many kutcha houses in Nagaland’s Dimapur on Wednesday, but there was no report of any injury, an official said.
A Fire Department official said the fire broke out at Kuda Lane 10 A in Dimapur in the afternoon and rendered around 100 families homeless as their houses were destroyed in the blaze. The fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, though the exact cause was yet to be ascertained, he said.
The area is inhabited mostly by members of the Bihari community, many of whom are daily wage earners and autorickshaw drivers, the official said.
Five fire tenders were pressed into service and took more than two hours to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas, the official added.
