Saharanpur (UP), Sep 23 A 12-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Behat area here on Wednesday, while a four-year-old boy was seriously injured in a separate instance of canine attack, police said.
The deceased, identified as Mannu (12), was with his mother Rajwati at a temple and had wandered away while she was preparing for worship, Behat Station House Officer Jitendra Dixit said.
At this time, four stray dogs attacked the boy and mauled his neck and face. On hearing his mother’s screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued him.
Mannu was taken to a primary health centre where doctors declared him dead, the SHO said.
The family declined a post-mortem and the body was handed over to them after completion of the necessary formalities, police said.
In another incident on Tuesday evening, four-year-old Shadan was attacked by a pack of stray dogs while playing outside his house in Sultanpur town’s Kothiwala locality under Chilkana police station area.
The child suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to a primary health centre before being referred to a higher medical facility, Chilkana SHO Akshay Sharma said.
