Amethi (UP), Sep 23 Two men were arrested and 16 illegal firearms, including 11 country-made pistols and five semi-finished weapons, were recovered from an alleged illegal arms manufacturing unit in a forested area in Amethi district, police said on Wednesday.
The action was carried out by the Bazaar Shukul police under “Operation Chakravyuh” in the Pali forest area, Superintendent of Police Sarvanan T said.
The recovery included nine country-made pistols of .315 bore, two live and two spent cartridges of the same bore, two 12-bore country-made pistols and two live 12-bore cartridges, besides five semi-finished 12-bore pistols, the SP said.
Police also recovered a large quantity of equipment allegedly used for manufacturing illegal firearms from the spot.
The arrested men were identified as Kaushal Kishore, 30, and Chhotu, 21, both native residents of Lucknow district, police said.
A case has been registered against the accused under provisions of the Arms Act, the SP said, adding further legal proceedings were being carried out.
