New Delhi, Sep 23 Delhi Health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Wednesday inspected GB Pant Hospital and directed authorities to ensure 100 per cent availabilities of medicines.
During the random check across wards and pharmacy, the minister interacted with the patients, attendants and doctors, the Health department said in a statement.
“There is no significant shortage of medicines at the hospital. However, I have directed the hospital administration to ensure timely replenishment and maintain 100 per cent availability of all essential medicines,” Singh said.
Singh found that approximately 95–97 per cent of the medicines were available at the hospital, the statement said.
“Sometimes there can be a situation where the stock of a particular medicine gets exhausted or there is a temporary issue with its availability. But I will not make excuses for this. My clear direction is that there should be no shortage of essential medicines in the hospital,” he said.
During the inspection, he was informed about the availability of alternative medicines from other companies in cases where a particular brand was not in stock.
If a particular brand prescribed by a doctor is unavailable, patients should be informed about an available alternative with the same salt/generic composition, wherever medically appropriate, the minister said.
