Thane, Sep 23 The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized more than 4,100 kg of substandard cake mix and bakery materials valued at Rs 15.87 lakh after raiding a firm in Bhiwandi in Thane district, officials said on Wednesday.
During the inspection at M/s B. J. R. Super Foods Private Limited, officials uncovered serious violations of food labelling regulations and identified stock suspected of being substandard.
A total of 4,164.86 kg of various baking components and food products were confiscated during the raid, according to an FDA release.
The seized inventory included egg-less cake mix (butter vanilla and rich chocolate), baking powder, corn flour, gulab jamun and kesar basundi instant mixes, mukhwas, custard powder, kesar badam drink mix, baking soda, food flavours, orange-red food colour, tasting powder, ice cream mix powder, Belgian waffles mix, and propylene glycol.
“The government is extremely strict about the quality of food items and the enforcement of the law in Maharashtra. Playing with the people’s health will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Such strict legal action will continue against those selling or storing expired or tampered food items,” the release quoted FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe as saying.
